Tyler Whitezell is an accomplished healthcare executive with extensive experience implementing programs, expanding services and driving operational improvements.
As Kern Medical’s Chief Operating Officer, Tyler Whitezell provides operational leadership to quality and ancillary departments within the hospital and clinics. He plays a key role in developing and executing the organization’s quality improvement initiatives and ensuring that operations function effectively throughout Kern Medical.
Prior to his current role, he served as Kern Medical’s Vice President of Administrative Services and prior to that its Director of Performance Analysis. In these roles he led the organization’s efforts in implementing the Medi-Cal 2020, saw through the transition of ownership to the Kern County Hospital Authority and implemented quality improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
Whitezell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a Master of Accountancy degree with an emphasis on professional accounting, both from Brigham Young University. Whitezell is a licensed CPA and earned a Six Sigma Greenbelt from the University of Michigan College of Engineering, Integrative Systems + Design. He is fluent in Russian.
He is involved in a range of community activities including Trustee, Kern County Employees’ Retirement Association; site coordinator, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and church leader. He also volunteered as a service representative in a project in St. Petersburg, Russia, in which he managed a diverse workforce. As a youth, he earned the Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
He enjoys traveling, sports and spending time with his family.
