Housing

Although housing is not provided by Kern Medical, ample housing is available in Bakersfield. A definite perk when considering Bakersfield is that the rental market is reasonable. A one or two bedroom apartment usually rents for $1100 – $1500 per month. A lot of complexes also accept month-to-month contracts, alleviating the need for a lease.

Meal Stipend of $200.00 per bi-weekly pay period included in payroll check and a 20% cafe discount. On-duty meals provided while rotating on campus at Kern Medical during the cafe non-operating hours.

Transportation

In Bakersfield, housing is probably not close enough to the hospital to walk, so it’s advisable to have a car. Also, some rotations are located away from campus, making a car a necessity.
