Dr. Gurvir Khurana, MD is a Neonatology physician at Kern Medical. Prior to moving to Bakersfield, he worked as an Attending Physician of Neonatology at the Medical Center of Plano in Texas, a 42 bed level III NICU, and an Attending Physician of Neonatology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

Dr. Khurana began his residency at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in India. He moved to New York and worked as a resident in a large competititve university program at New York University Medical Center and went on to complete his Pediatric Residency as Chief Resident of Pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine. This was an extra academic year with clinical responsibilities including critical and general pediatric patient care with a strong emphasis on teaching medical students and pediatric residents. His administrative duties pertaining to organization of seminars, grand rounds, and day-to-day scheduling of pediatric residents. He then moved on to complete his Neonatology Fellowship, where he worked in two level III+ NICUs. He gained extensive experience in high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide use and postoperative general surgical, cardiac and neuro-surgical patient care. He had significant exposure to a neonatal follow-up care program, infant apnea program, quality assurance activities and family centered, developmentally appropriate neonatal care.

Dr. Khurana is Board Certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Pediatrics. He is licensed to practice medicine in the states of New York, Texas, Indiana, and California. He was a certified instructor in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program. He is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics.
