Kern Medical Announces New Student Union for Advanced Medical Education

Bakersfield, Calif. – April 24, 2017 – Kern Medical announces the opening of its new Student Union, which will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. The Student Union represents Kern Medical’s commitment to academic excellence and its continued support of undergraduate and graduate medical education. The space was made possible thanks to a generous donation from Ross University School of Medicine located in Dominica to the Kern Medical Foundation.

“The new Student Union at Kern Medical provides the necessary space dedicated to the needs of our medical students,” said Russell Judd, CEO of Kern Medical. “It’s a place to study, relax and connect with peers. We’re extremely grateful for our partnership with Ross University that made this possible.”

The Student Union building will also include Kern Medical’s Department of Medical Education, which supports Kern Medical’s Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education residency and fellowship programs. Being the only teaching hospital in the county, Kern Medical makes recruiting and retraining physicians a priority every year.

Owen Jr., MD, Dean of Ross University School of Medicine. “Kern Medical serves as one of Ross University’s largest clinical tracks for third and fourth year medical students. We’re honored to be able to contribute to medical education as we prepare students to become caring physicians all over North America.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. on April 26 outside the A-wing entrance of Kern Medical at 1700 Mount Vernon Ave. The ceremony will include a meet and greet, remarks from Russell Judd, William F. Owen Jr., MD, Peter Gomez, vice dean at Ross University, Kyle Foster, Ross University medical student completing a rotation at Kern Medical, and Amir Berjis, MD, director of medical education at Kern Medical.
