Effective Date: Friday, March 11, 2022. Guidelines may change as circumstance requires.

Visiting Hours: 8:30 am – 8:30 pm (exception made for overnight visitors)

Due to COVID-19, Kern Medical is restricting the number of visitors at our hospital and clinics to protect our staff, physicians, patients, and visitors. Therefore, visitors must provide proof of identification and:

  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test completed within 72 hours* OR
  • Proof of completing a COVID-19 primary vaccination series with two doses of a Pfizer or Moderna (mRNA) vaccine with or without receiving a booster 5 months after completing the primary series OR
  • Proof of completing a COVID-19 primary vaccination series with one dose of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine with or without receiving a booster 2 months after completing the primary series

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

• 1 visitor at a time for each adult patient (1 for COVID-19+ adult patients)

• 2 visitors per day for pediatric patients (1 for COVID-19+ pediatric patients)

• Exception: End of Life patients • No exchange of visitors for COVID-19+ patients

MATERNAL HEALTH – LABOR & DELIVERY (OB)

• 1 visitor per encounter selected by “Mom” to be present during labor and birth

• 1 visitor for COVID-19+ patients

• 1 visitor per day for each Mother/Baby in the Post-Partum units

NEONATAL ICU (NICU) & PEDIATRICS

• 2 “banded” visitors, may be alone or together, per day - NICU

• 2 parents/visitors per patient - Pediatrics (exception - 1 overnight visitor)

AREAS ALLOWING ONE VISITOR PER PATIENT, PER DAY

• Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for pediatric patients only

• Areas where a pediatric patient is being treated, i.e., Radiology

• Outpatient Radiology

AREAS ALLOWING ONE VISITOR AT A TIME, PER PATIENT

• Behavioral Health Unit (1 visitor per patient only - with a maximum of 4 visitors total at a time on the unit)

• Acute Care including ICU, DOU, 3D, 3C, and 2C

• All Other Areas of Hospital

Masks must be worn at all times by the visitor. Visitors who do not have a medical mask will have one provided. Outpatient clinic visitors will be restricted based on the patient condition and need for support. Please arrange for those who cannot enter the hospital or clinic to wait elsewhere. If Kern Medical waiting rooms are used, use the waiting room closest to the area of treatment and socially distance. Exceptions may be considered to any of the above guidelines in certain situations such as: trauma patients, comfort care, pastoral care, end-of-life, or patients reliant on an advocate for their care. Visitors under the age of 18 are not allowed. Special consideration may be made based on the situation and any End of Life situations and/or approval from nursing/unit supervisor/house supervisor.

*Proof of a negative test is not required if proof of a positive COVID 19 test within no greater than 90 days is provided.
