OB/GYN Services

Health Services for Women at Every Stage of Life

Kern Medical offers comprehensive, state-of-the-art women’s health services delivered by board-certified physicians specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. No matter what your needs are, our OB/GYN specialists can help. Our UCLA-affiliated program is unique to the region and is focused on women of all ages.

“OB/GYN” stands for obstetrics and gynecology, 2 related but distinct fields. While gynecologists specialize in women’s reproductive health, obstetricians are specially trained to safely guide mothers-to-be through pregnancy from conception through delivery and the postpartum period. Many practitioners specialize both in obstetrics and gynecology, and others specialize even further, such as gynecologic oncologists (physicians who treat women with precancerous and cancerous gynecological conditions).

We offer the following OB/GYN services at Kern Medical:

  • Urogynecology including incontinence, pelvic floor disorders and complex reconstructive surgery
  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Minimally invasive and robotic surgery
  • Genetic counseling
  • Post-menopausal care
  • Prenatal screening and diagnostic services including ultrasound and amniocentesis
  • High-risk pregnancy management
  • Infertility services and reproductive endocrinology

Importance of Routine Gynecology Care

Regular gynecology checkups are important for women to maintain their reproductive health. While not all gynecological screening procedures are needed every year, experts recommend women should see their gynecologist once a year for health screenings. Routine health screenings start with a general exam, where you can discuss your health concerns, receive a screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs or STDs), and receive non-invasive cancer screenings. Pelvic exams are sometimes recommended as a way to screen for uterine or ovarian cancer in its early stages when it is usually asymptomatic and much harder to detect.
